Sergeant Keith Lewis

Full-time Instructor

We would like to proudly introduce you to our first full-time instructor, Seargeant Keith Lewis of the O’Fallon Police Department. Sergeant Lewis has taught at the Eastern Missouri Police Academy since 2007.

Sergeant Lewis began his police career as an intern with the O’Fallon Police Department in 1994, later becoming a dispatcher in 1995. He became a police officer for the City of O’Fallon in 1999 after graduating the St. Louis County Municipal Police Academy the same year. Sergeant Lewis was a K-9 handler from 2001-2010, and in 2011 he obtained the role of Police Canine Trainer and Instructor. He was a fugitive officer in 2011, and began teaching in-service courses for O’Fallon Police Department in 2012, was a Crisis and Hostage Negotiator for St. Charles Regional SWAT beginning in 2017. He was also a Field Training Officer from 2011 to 2021, until he became the Training Division Supervisor 2021, a position he held until being detached to the Eastern Missouri Police Academy.

Sergeant Lewis is a Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Generalist Instructor with many specialized training certifications. He also serves as a Subject Matter Expert in Dealing with Aggressive Behavior for the Missouri POST. He has also served, and continues to serve as a Certifying Judge and Evaluator for the United States Police Canine Association in many categories and holds the credentials of being a Certified Patrol Dog Trainer with the same association.
